FAQ?

Can my Movie Night be during the day?

No. We use projection, and it is not possible to see an image in daylight. If you would prefer to host your event in a dark area indoors, the movie can then be screened during the day. Movie Night is an evening event and we suggest you plan around sunset.

Can I collect myself?

Movie Night is unfortunately not a dry hire option and delivery and setup is a requirement.

What movies are available for my event?

Movie Night provides an equipment rental service and for our home based products, we do not provide the movie itself. You are welcome to provide any film on DVD disc (or Bluray in the case of the Bluray package) keeping in mind the legal requirements for screening a movie in public and selling of tickets.

Are bean bags included in the packages

Bean bags are not included in any of our packages. They are charged separately at R60.00 each. An extra delivery fee may apply to quantities of more than 25 bean bags.

Can I play a file from my computer or media player?

If you want to play a digital file from a computer, Flash Drive, or other media player, we will provide a VGA or HDMI connection to accommodate your device. We cannot provide support for the device itself and will require prior notice to ensure that the required cable is available. Without prior notice, we will not be able to assist once setup has commenced. Please keep in mind the legalities of pirated content and note that we will not be held responsible for content that you choose to play. Our service is purely an equipment rental service.

Yes you can, provided your device has a working HDMI output and the wifi will reach where you intend on having the setup. We cannot provide support for the device itself and will require prior notice to ensure that the required cable is available. Without prior notice, we will not be able to assist once setup has commenced

What format of movie is supported?

Our standard packages include a  BluRay player.

Can I sell tickets to my event?

If you intend selling tickets to a Movie Night event, it is a legal requirement that you obtain the necessary rights and licence for the particular film you plan on screening. Movie Night can assist with the facilitation of the licensing and costs would be for your account.

Can I connect my laptop computer to the projector instead of the DVD player?

Yes you can, provided your laptop has an HDMI output.

Can someone from Movienight assist us with making popcorn and slush

Yes. We have an add on option for an operator which is charged per hour. We generally book 3-4 hours per event.

Do I need a license if…

We’re a non-profit organisation. Do we still need a licence?
Yes. Under the law, it doesn’t matter if you’re a non-profit or for-profit organisation. You are required to have a public exhibition licence to show motion pictures and other audiovisual works.

We don’t charge admission. Do we still need a licence?
Yes. A licence is required regardless of whether an admission fee is charged.

We show films, TV and other content that we either broadcast on TV or that we have purchased on DVD or rented through our online streaming service subscription. Do we still need a licence to view or show it in public?
Yes. The location requires a licence regardless of who owns the content. While you may have rented, borrowed, or purchased an audiovisual programme, you are only granted the right to view it for personal, private use, not to perform it in public.
